Anthony Caravella, 43, spent 26 years in prison before DNA evidence exonerated him and now sues Broward Sheriff’s Office and Miramar Police.
Anthony Caravella claims both law enforcement agencies framed him for the 1983 murder of 58-year old Ada Cox Jankowski whose body was found in a field at Miramar Elementary School. His attorney at the time said that police forced a confession from Caravella, who was only 15 at the time and had an IQ of 67. His attorney claimed Caravella was beaten, coerced and only confessed in exchange for the release of a female friend who was arrested with him.
If the allegations from Anthony Caravella are true, not just should he receive compensation from the Broward's Sheriff Office and Miramar Police Department, but so should the family members of the victim in the crime - Ada Cox Jankowski for their mental torment. But I would not stop there, I would seek out the police officers and criminally pursue charges against them, let them feel what it is like to be placed behind bars.
Can you imagine being sent to jail at such an early age, not having committed any crimes. Can you imagine what this VICTIM of these law enforcement agencies was put through, can you imagine his suffering, his pain, and the pain of his family. What amount of money would cover such compensation?
